Dow water soluble resins are used as binders and viscosity modifiers in different battery electrodes and electrolytes.

POLYOX™ water-soluble polymers are used as binders for battery electrodes and in membrane separators. POLYOX™ forms complexes with a wide variety of lithium salts such as lithium triflate, and with many polar substances like mineral acids, halogens, and poly (carboxylic) acids, opening the door for new battery designs.

In electrolytes, POLYOX™ can dissolve a large amount of the inorganic salts resulting in an ion-conductive medium for rechargeable batteries. Furthermore, the polymer electrolyte can be made into strong and flexible thin films to improve battery safety, performance and manufacturing.

WALOCEL™ CRT can be used as an electrode binder in rechargeable systems such as lithium-ion batteries. It offers excellent adhesion to the anode collector. Its high purity facilitates optimal chemical reactions and can reduce the occurrence of defects. Therefore the maximum capacity of electricity is transmitted from the battery to the device and leads to an extended battery lifetime. The compatibility of WALCOEL™ CRT with a wide range of electrode components makes it the right choice for future innovation and emerging technologies. CMC is for example used in rechargeable lithium batteries as found in cell phones and electric vehicles.
